This event, hosted by the PDC and supported by Peninsula Interfaith Climate Action (PICA) and other Silicon Valley environmental groups, will provide an overview of climate change issues and identify local challenges and solutions that individuals and local communities can and are taking here in Silicon Valley. Discussion will take place regarding the many opportunities available to individuals to get involved in climate issues on a local level, from signing a petition to writing letters of support to local and state legislators to testifying at public hearings.
Debbie Mytels, former Associate Director for Programs at Acterra and convenor of PICA, a coalition of a dozen local faith-based groups working to curtail greenhouse gases and protect our climate, will moderate the session. Speakers will include Gary White, a climate activist trained by former Vice President Al Gore and his Climate Reality Project organization; Judy Borcz, a member of the Sierra Club Loma Prieta’s Fracking Committee; Stew Plock, 350 Silicon Valley Partnership Development Manager and Sunshine Alliance organizer; and Michael Closson, former Executive Director of Acterra, who will discuss the progress being made regarding Community Choice Energy and Climate Action Plans in cities on the Peninsula.
