District Attorney
Jeff Rosen
We had a lovely turnout at the PDC Lunch & Learn with District Attorney Jeff Rosen, bringing together 66 members and guests to listen and ask questions. Mr. Rosen started off his talk by asking how many of us believe in free speech and assembly. Everyone's hands were raised. Then how many of us oppose vandalism and property destruction. Everyone's hands were raised again. He joked, "My work here is done."
He first shared details of the property destruction that occurred recently at Stanford. You can read his statement on the Stanford Protest Case on his website. It was different than many of the protests most of us have attended, in that the criminal acts of vandalism and property destruction were carefully planned out in advance and carried out according to the plan. He also noted that in cases like this involving younger people, some are eligible for restorative justice opportunities.
A Question and Answer (Q&A) session followed, where DA Rosen shared his expertise and opinions on current events, including one question about criminalizing homelessness, to which he responded, "The jail is not for affordable housing," a comment which was well received by the room.
